Reading Widow w/2 Coins

Friends, it blessed me to read your comments on my last post ... to see you soul searching, sharing your struggles and being vulnerable. Truly touching. In fact, nothing jazzes me up more than seeing women get real before God and one another. I am praying for each of us.

Ready to read another woman of the Bible together?! It's been a while and I've missed our discussions so let's jump in. We're going to read about the Widow with Two Coins. Her short story can be found in Mark 12:41-44 and also in Luke 21:1-4. Follow the link to read it online.

Before you begin, let’s pray.

“Lord, please forgive me and cleanse me right now of any wrong-doing, wrong thoughts, or wrong attitudes. Please remove my distractions while I read. I want to stand before You, wrapped in the blood of Christ, and hear You speak to me through Your Word today. Open my eyes and my mind to see You and Your truth, in Jesus’ Name.”

Post your “I read it” here.
Then think it over as you go about your day, and we’ll discuss her here tomorrow.

  12. We got back home this afternoon.
Just wanted to thank everyone who prayed that we would have a safe and pleasant trip. Ryan slept most of the way and Angelica talked to us. It was the most peaceful trip we have made with those two in quiet a while. Of course we left them there as they were staying all week. Their mother is going up tomorrow. Please put her on your prayer list that she will have a pleasant trip and not get lost.

God is so good. We had a great time. We celebrated Sherri's birthday last night and the people she works with had a Birthday Party for her at work. She thought she was going to a meeting so she was pleasantly surprised. She is going to have to quit having birthdays because when she get another year older that means I'm getting older. lol

I am in desperate need of prayer. I am at a crossroads with job/family. I may be getting a job offer that would be very difficult to turn down, but at the same time I don't know if it would be best for my family.
PLEASE lift me up. I am so torn on this and I really need God to give me a peace and wisdom in this situation.
    Thank you,
    Tina

OK, Rachel, I've read your post, repeated the prayer, and read the passages and commentaries. Ouch! The Lord has hit me with the story of this woman right in the depths of my heart, my intellect, and my conscience.
It's a good thing that it's lunch hour at my office because my tears are flowing and my thoughts are overflowing in conversation with the Lord just now. He's cutting away the untruths and lies that I've been harbouring and revealing what He expects of me.
You see, I've been a widow for almost 7 years, and 2 years ago in response to the Lord's prompting, I took in a special needs, abused, orphaned boy who is now 14 years old. The Lord has provided for us in so many ways, and yet of late I've been feeling overwhelmed at the prospects of his future. Just reading again this passage about the widow w/2 coins has shown me that the Lord has so much more in store and He expects us to continue faithfully and in obedience to His call. Pray for me!

  17. Hi Everyone

It is good to be back to the Bible Study. I read it also and I would all of you that is reading to also lift me up in prayer today. I need to get back and write in my blog, but I have been going to counseling for 4 weeks now for all the pain and abuse I received from my past. Yesterday was very painful and for you that visit me on my blog know of a lot of my past. Please pray that the Holy Spirit continues to open my eyes, and that I allow Him to heal me.

    Love you

  24. Thanks for your prayers. My youngest daughter made it to Virginia Beach ok and without any problems. Of course her dad called her about every hour to make sure she was all right. A first for him. I'm the one usually calling.

For those of you who are having problems your welcome to visit my blog. I've posted today something that might be of help to you.

  38. Reminds me of a friend of mine. Her church took up an offering for a family in their church that needed some extra help. They kept the name of the family private so as to not embarrass them. My friend didn't have much herself, but shared what she could. She found out later the offering was for her family.

  39. Hey, Rachel!
Nope, I haven't read it yet!!!! I'm working on a Bible study of the Proverbs 31 Women this afternoon!!! I WILL get to it though. Promise!

Meant to tell you that I talked with Danny's wife, and she said that he did remember you from elementary school!! It is such a small world. They're coming down to SC in a few weeks. I'm going to introduce her to your blog :).

Thanks for your wisdom and insight, girlfriend! Have a happy Sunday!
    Blessings,

    I read it.
I must confess, many times I have wondered what others were giving at church and felt what we had to give was pathetic by compasrison. At the same time, I have also pondered what would happen if I had the courage to give more and have faith that God will provide. Definitely an area we can all work on. What a wise widow she was!
Praying for the needs of those posting above.

I READ IT!! While Balancing my teething 3 month old, and keeping my 3 yr old toddler busy. But it is important to realize that we should be giving ourselves and our resources to GOD with the same open heart. She gave EVERYTHING She had and TRUSTED GOD! I know I am guilty of sometimes Trusting myself and not Giving my EVERYTHING to God but yet pooling my time and energy into the children, work and other activities that take up way to much of my time. SO TODAY I am pledging to have a heart like the woman with two coins to Trust God and Give it my EVERYTHING!!
