Lending to God

Welcome if you are finding this post from this devotion on lending to God.

To enter to win a copy of my new book It's No Secret: Revealing Divine Truths Every Woman Should Know, simply follow this link to Compassion International, and choose a child there to pray for today.

me & a sweet Ecuadorian girl
Leave the child's name and county in a comment below and you'll be entered for the book, as promised in my devotion at P31 today. I trust you'll both be blessed as you pray today.

What are others saying about the book? One my favorite reviews simply says, "I totally loved, loved, loved this book!! Once I opened it, I couldn't put it down! Rachel is so down to earth and REAL about her struggles and failures, that it felt like she was writing my story."

I hope you win!

Thankful for a God that is known as The Father of Compassion.

  3. Yes, Rachel, I was caught off guard recently as I watched a video my son created with the pictures we took while on a mission trip to Africa. I could not stop the tears as they began to flow - the eyes, the faces - it was more than this mama's heart could handle at that moment. Our team visited an orphanage while there devastated by the condition those children were living in although they were certainly given food and lots of love. A certain member of our team has come home and is in the process of making a difference for those children creating a program for sponsors of the children AND building a brand new orphanage to house those children. WOW! I'm amazed at how God uses the hands and feet of his children to show HIS amazing love to those around the world. My prayer is I hope I never forget . . . .

  6. Hi Rachel. Our family is blessed to sponsor 4 children through Compassion. I hope that I will one day be able to visit at least one of my sponsored children, as I know that will be a life-changing experience. I am also a child advocate in the Compassion network. I hope you don't mind if I forward your P31 devotion to some of my fellow sponsors and Compassion team members. I visited the Compassion Web site today and prayed for Jeksen from Indonesia. He has been waiting for a sponsor for over 6 months. I pray that your devotion will send a sponsor to him today. Thanks and God bless you!

  7. Please pray for Apirak--our new sponsored child in Thailand. Our last child (Arsor) whom we had sponsored for over two years is being sponsored in a different project, so we had to choose another as well. It was sad to end our relationship with Arsor but he and his family will always be in our hearts and prayers.

  10. Thanks for reminding me that I've left my sponsored child get pushed to the bottom of my list. We are on auto pay also but sometimes I wish we weren't just so that I would be reminded each month to write to him as we pay. But today I will pray for him and then send him a letter!

  12. Rachel,
I am praying for Caroline in Columbia. Our church showed the VOM documentary on Columbia last night showing the persecuted Christians, orphans of a 50 year civil war, and those brave missionaries and widowed pastor's wives. Very moving! How long will it be before we really see persecution in the U.S.?? Something to mediate over.

  25. HI Rachel,

I have actually never visited this website, but I am so grateful that I did. Each child who's profile I read, I prayed for. However, one little girl stuck in my heart Christian Gershom Lujery from Tanzania. My husband and I have been talking about having a third child, but I am too old. I think that sponsoring her maybe exactly what our family needs....

  26. I just clicked on to Compassion International and viewed the profiles of all the listed children. I was touched by seeing Brayan of Guatamala. I will be praying about my role in impacting his life for Jesus. It is a privilege to be able to help such youngsters with prayer and financial help.

  27. I challenge us all to see the poor and needy right under our noses. Yes, i have a heart for those in other countries, and yes, I believe that we should reach out and help. But it is much easier to send a check or a prayer to a far away land and feel fulfilled. it is much harder to look, touch, smell and handle the poverty that is right around the corner staring us in the face. Dealing with this "up close and personal" need takes so much more. I hope that we will remember that people in our own backyards need us as well and we have immediate access to them. Today I am praying for the homeless man on the corner who has no where to lay his head!

  29. I will be praying for Jennifer, age 6, in Guatemala. Please also pray for my husband and me, as we continue to ponder adoption or foster care. We are nearing 50 and have been married 6 1/2 yrs, without children. We want only to serve God in this decision. But I often wonder if it's our self-serving motives that hold us back from making that decision.

  30. Felix Gatobu, Kenya.

I lived in Kenya for many years and know the huge difference that child sponsorship makes. I chose this 'child' as he is 18, still in school, and hoping he will be able to find a way to support himself and his family once he finishes his studies.

  31. A beautiful young lady named Angela who lives in in Ecuador...and also those children in my community who go hungry. A local organization provides "Buddy Bags" to help feed them over the weekend when they don't have school meals to rely on.

  34. So honest, thank you for sharing that. I am unemployed at present and my prayer has been to get a job for obvious reasons but also to be able to give like i used to and more. Sometimes I get caught up in my own needs and I forget that God is not only providing for me but for others through me. I have been able to continue my sponsorship through Compassion and this weekend a homebuilder's food gift card promotion provided cards for my own needs and to be able to buy food for a homeless ministry at church that I was agonizing over. How can I do that? And He showed me the way. Sometimes I need a brick wall to fall on me before I realize God has answered teh prayer. Thank you for the reminder Rachel! God uses you to bless us with your wonderful insights, honest sharing and great writing.

  38. God is truly amazing!
I have pondered whether I should sponsor a child for approximately 1 year now.
Last night I finally left it with the Lord and look what happened this morning!
The first devotion I read was about tithing meticulously yet forgetting mercy, justice and faith. Then yours! How much clearer can it get!
I suppose I would have sponsored a child a whole year ago if I owned a credit card.
So today I accepted that I am going to sponsor a child and to this end I started the process to acquire a credit card.
Before I even read your request for us to pray I prayed for Augenia in Tanzania. Looking at the photos again I am no longer seeing her picture so maybe she got sponsorship today.
When my card finally comes through I will be sponsoring one of these children. I thank God for you and P31.

  40. Your devotion touched my heart in more ways than one: our family sponsors a lovely young lady, Leserian from India - at the request of my 9 year old son, Caleb. He stood up on a chair and took in a child from CI at a concert last year! It brought a tear to MY eye to see his heart so full of love! THank you for the reminder to pray for these dear ones of God! ~ Ann in Seattle

  41. Rachel, I went to Compassion International and chose a 5 year old boy from India named Rahul to pray for. I also posted the challenge on my FB wall to all my FB friends. If everyone would do the same we would have LOTS and LOTS of prayers for all these children.

  42. Thank you for your devotion today. Sponsoring a child has been something that I have thought about for a while but I have felt that I didn't have the money. After looking at the children on the Compassion site, I realized that the cost is a little more than a dollar a day, and that I can certainly afford. Anderson, age 5, from Honduras has been on the list for over six months and from this day forward he and his family will be in my prayers. I feel blessed to be able to sponsor him.

  44. I pick Angel from Indonesia. She is 7 years old.

On a side note, my oldest son is a missionary in Slovakia. He works with the youth in that country. We as christians need to remember that children all over the world are looking for someone to care about them. They also need to know about God's love and mercy for them.

  45. Hello Rachel...we already sponsor and pray for 2 children...due to our circumstances we have had to take a 6 month break from actually sending money for one, but this will be rectified shortly....Thanks for spreading the word and showing others what a great job Compassion and others like them do for these kids...may you be especially blessed
Both our kids are in Africa...one with compassion and one with African Action International...May God bless you

  47. rachel! i had to write a comment to your post! i've received p31 emails for several years now. thy are a daily part of my inbox. i didn't get around to reading this mornings until tonight. if i had read it this morning i might have missed this amazing connection. we adopted a child this summer and though it was expensive we believed God had given us the money to spend and so we never asked Him for more. we are expecting the tax credit to come in the spring which will cover a good portion of the costs. but this afternoon we got a check in the mail from a family member for a HUGE sum, a gift in honor of a family member who passed away this summer, and that sum paid for the other portion of the adoption almost down to the exact dollar!!!!! God does repay and you don't even have to ask Him!!!! we were in awe before i read your post, but after reading it, there's no denying this was from the Lord!!!!!!!

But, i'd also like to be joined in prayer for Seiyaloi from Kenya who lives in an AIDS infected area as well as has been waiting 6 months or longer for a sponsor.

  51. It would seem like having Jesus in my heart has the same effect as you mentioned. My mom is not saved and she made comment that I should not still be sponsoring some orphan in another country when we are trying so hard just to stay afloat ourselves. But I just can't let that committment go. I know the Lord will provide but my mom doesn't. Please pray that my mom will let me share Jesus with her someday before its too late. Thank you, Jacqueline

  54. It is so, so hard to choose just one child to pray for today. (Not that I have to pray for just one! I can pray for all of them and know that our loving God knows the names and hearts of each and cares for all of them so much more than I can.)

When I clicked on "view all children," it says 1396 entires. Oh, how I want to make that 1395 today! But we are not able to make a consistent monthly contribution right now. I so desire to sponsor a child through Compassion, and I know that God will provide a way. I hope it is soon!

Today, I am praying for Ayubu in Tanzania, Odette from Togo, Anna in Tanzania, Paola in Ecuador, and Comrade in Uganda.

Thank you for this call to pray and serve and this book opportunity!

  55. Asael--Honduras
    Felix--Ecuador
    Leyser--Guatemala
    Marisol--Honduras

Praying for these today. I choose Asael and Marisol from Honduras since a team from our church got back a week ago tonight from building a house for a pastor in Honduras. Felix from Ecuador since my daughter and I are doing Christmas cards for the children there and Leyser from Guatemala because I have been praying for the people there since I saw all the pictures of the September Compassion Trip on Amanada's blog.

Good luck with the new book.
