Say it isn't so ...

Friends, there's been a lot of disturbing news this week. From the ailing economy with increasing job-losses, to the crass attitude of the American Peanut Corporation; to the tragic plane crash in New York - join me in praying for those families. It's been a rough week.

But today I read some news that has me shaking in my pretty pink socks: "Some scientists say that it's possible that chocolate could one day be in short supply ... even extinct!"

Please have mercy, Jesus, and save our chocolate supply! Afterall, shortbread can't help us through a massive recession. Cobbler can't help us forget our troubles. And how else will we deal with PMS or menopause?

First unsafe peanuts, and now perhaps no chocolate either?? That means no more Reese Cups. This is bad.

Without chocolate, what will Forrest Gump compare life to?

Without chocolate, what dessert will be the feature of restaurant menus everywhere? "Death by Key Lime" just doesn't have the same appeal.

Here is a link to the article that explains why we could lose our worldwide chocolate supply. I can't even believe I had to type that sentence.

Maybe those Left Behind authors are right ... maybe this is another indication that the end times could be right about the corner! If that's the case, I can breathe a little easier - because once we're living with Christ (and not just in Christ on this side of eternity), there will be no more tears, no more financial crisis, no more PMS, and no more plane crashes or death. Life there will be sweeter than any piece of cocoa, cream and sugar could ever be.

Meanwhile, if you are lucky enough to receive some chocolate today - or buy it on sale at massive discount tomorrow - SAVOR IT, girls. Because nothing material lasts forever.

I'm enjoying some chocolate today and thanking my eternal God for life's little temporary pleasures. Happy Valentine's and have a sweet day! ~ R

  1. I truly believe that we are living in the end times. A lot of things are happening that we have been told about in the Bible. Now if that's the case, COME ON, LORD JESUS, I'M READY, but if it's not the case, please don't take the chocolate away!!!!

I'm still listening for the sound of the trumpet.
    Blessings and happy Valentin's Day,

  2. OH MY STARS!!
You made me laugh really hard. :)
Chocolate has been a good friend of mine for about 2 years. I've always liked it but we have become much closer since my hysterectomy. I love it. I can only pray it will last. PLEASE! :)
    Happy Valentines day.

  3. Very interesting! I wouldn't consider myself a "chocoholic", however, I do enjoy the sweet stuff (of the milk variety, that is!) It would indeed be a sad day in our househould if "momma" couldn't get some chocolate!

BTW, do you know of any "chocolate" themed devotions or games???? Our women's minstry is having a "Chocolate N.O.W.!" event and it would be great to include some kind of chcolate themed poems or thoughts. The NOW part stands for Night of Worship (with all things chocolate!) I am really looking forward to this and any help you could offer would be appreciated. I wish we could fly you out here for this but perhaps that will happen somtime in the future! So... any ideas???

  4. Here is a new website which is a Christian alternative to
    Check it out!

    God's blessings to all,

I believe believe believe :)! and I want my bigpig to come home where he will be kept warm and safe and dry!

  6. Hey 5SKIS, wouldn't it be fun for me to come to your church in the future? We could sit down together for some coffee and chocolate ... that is if we still have chocolate. See, coffee and tarts just doesn't sound as inviting.

Here are some cute quotes on chocolate:

"Strength is the capacity to break a chocolate bar into four pieces with your bare hands - and then eat just one of the pieces." -Judith Viorst

"There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE."
    - Linda Grayson, "The Pickwick Papers"

"Forget love-- I'd rather fall in chocolate!!!"

Also, there is a chocolate themed "conference in a box" yall could buy and use, but I think it's pretty expensive. Try googling it.

    Hope this helps! ~ Rachel

  7. You're welcome.

Also, 5SKIS, on page 94 of my book "God's Purpose for Every Woman" I wrote a devotion about chocolate - maybe you can get your hands on a copy of that or order one through P31.

I know that I've written other devotions about chocolate in the years past, and they might be archived somewhere on the web but I can't recall the titles or dates they were published!

  8. Ok... I confess, I am a "last minute" kinda gal...

I did look at our Christian Bookstore (about 70 miles away) for any of your books but didn't find them... I did purchase two of Lysa's books and am enjoying them. Maybe our bookstore was sold out of your books.

Anyway, our event is tomorrow night. So... I am scrambling through some of the devotional books I have and I will search online to see if I find any of the articles you have written. I will have to order your book, "God's Purpose for Every Women" online. But for tomorrow, I'll have to use what I have or can find tonight.

Thank you for your help. And thank you more so for sharing your love of Christ with all of us out here.

  9. I'm feeling the need to state that I am not our Women's Ministry director... I was asked to "fill-in" for this month's gathering and I thought chocolate would be a fun theme. Anyway, I found a good devotion to use and I even found a fun game with pictures of candy bars cut in half... the object is to identify as many as possible. I will let you know how it goes.

And... be assured of my prayers... I know God has big plans for both your book and your upcoming teaching. Thank you for being a vessel for HIM!

  10. Our chocolate N.O.W. night went great! Aside from the meaningful worship time and fun fellowship, there were some awesome chocolate desserts! New-to-me, and this may very well be a gateway drug... were brownies topped with COOKIE DOUGH!!! Oh my stars! I love brownies as they are but this one looked as if it were iced with some sort of peanut butter frosting or even a mocha cream cheese concoction. Nope... It was Cookie Dough! Yumm-O!!! My friend assured us they were "egg-free" so they were "safe". I think they are dangerous. Very, Very dangerous. I was hooked after one bite! If "Miss Carla" gives me the recipe, I'll pass it on.
