Will I Conform?

I may have been complaining just a little in today's devotion, "Because He Said So," about my daughter's tendency to question things. Particularly the things I tell her to do.  Truth is, she's a lot like me. That's probably why she pushes my buttons.

I imagine there will be a point in her future when she turns to her best friend or husband and declares, "OH NO, I'm turning into my mother!"  Heaven help her, she's close already. But I don't tell her that - it would crush her. Instead I hug her and tell her, "You belong to me."

In recent weeks I've been given a personality profile, and a learning style assessment. It confirms that I lean heavily towards extroversion, and towards non-conformity. No wonder "blind" submission just because God says so doesn't always come easily to me.  But, my desire to please God is strong. So my mission is to obey the biblical commands, whether I understand them or not.

And I've never regretted a time that I did.

If you have a few minutes, go take this online personality assessment.  Then report back in the comments here which one it says you are. You can read the explantions of temperment and tell me if you think that is accurate, or if submission to authority or protocol comes easy to you.  (I know it's not exactly easy for anyone - just relatively speaking.)

Then, you'll be entered to win a signed copy of It's No Secret.

And if you're wondering, I'm an ENFP based on this test.

  1. I am an ISTJ (Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging). My first reaction was to reject this result. I had taken this test about 10 years ago when I was working full time and scored many opposite categories (especially the extroverted one). However, that was before I was married and became a mom to three children. I have definitely changed. I value quiet time more now because I never seem to have it. I love being alone because I never truly am. I suppose this result does describe who I am now. It's just difficult to come to terms with such a drastic change in myself since I still see myself as I was in my twenties. I guess this is yet another one of those things I struggle to accept without question. Thanks for the insight!

  3. I didn't do the evaluation yet... I just want to say that I have a 6 yr old boy who is just like your daughter. What makes it even more interesting is I am extremely laid back and he knows it and walks all over me. How do I take the reins back?? I don't know where to start and I feel trapped in my myself. Any suggestions for resources?

  4. Wow! They got me to a "T". I am a INFJ. I can't deny it!

  5. I am ESFP (Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving). This doesn't surprise me at all. I've done a lot of acting in my life (community stuff), and this fits me to a tee! - Loved your devotional today. I am a lot like your daughter (and you). I want to know why, and analyze. I'm so grateful God is infinitely patient with me, and tolerates my questions. I just wish He would answer more quickly! (My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. 7. That was fun... I am ENFJ (slightly extraverted, intuitive, feeling, and slightly judging). I feel like it's pretty dead on. I just hope the judging part means I am fair and non-partial and not judgemental!!! ;) dy have the book, so don't put me in the mix for

  8. Sorry... major issues with that last part of my comment! I don't know what happened!!! I already have the book, so don't put me in the mix for that... have a great weekend!

I am an ISTJ. I agree with the fact that I have a desire to serve others and unwilling to toot my own horn most often times. I disagree about having a good memory...I don't. Family is the center of my life..yes. I am more introverted than ex..I am impressed with some of the celebrities I see that are also ISTJs. Thank you.

ENFP Not strong in any one, just slightly moderate. I'm good with that. I call myself a highly disorganized bleeding heart with a need for some time to myself, while still being an active friend and mommy.

  14. INFJ (introvert, intuitive, feeling, judging) with the strongest one being judging...at first I was thinking, "That's not me!" Because I instantly thought it was saying I'm judgmental of people. But I clicked on the links that explained INFJ...and yes, that's me. Judging is referring to judging situations and their outcomes. It looks like counselors are often INFJ's. God gifted me with empathy and compassion. Nothing makes me happier than being a shoulder to cry on or an ear for someone to vent in. I guess this assessment wasn't to far off.

  15. I am an INFP (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving). It seems to be pretty accurate. I want to find the meaning & purpose for my life. I do like helping people & try to find the positive & good in everything. Well most of the time but maybe not always... I really want to become the woman God created me to be. I just wish I knew who that was exactly. Hopefully I can use this as a starting point for figuring that out. Thank you!!!!

I am an ISFJ(Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging). The result really explains who I am except I am not so pleased with the judging part. Got to work on that part especially if it is in a negative sense. Thanks for the link. Enter me in the draw. Would love to win your book so that I could reference it to Melissa Taylor's last Bible Study.

  17. This is what I am INFP.I love the first one very expressed introvert. well ya, I prefer to stay in with few or no others and big get together s really bother me. I remember taking this test in College and I apparently haven't changed at all, wonder if that's a good thing or bad thing??? Hmmm

The rest of my score is this. very expressed introvert, slightly
    expressed intuitive personality
moderately expressed feeling personality moderately expressed perceiving personality.

  18. ISFJ - that's pretty accurate and not too much different than one I took for work several years ago. If anything as I get older, the tendencies are becoming more pronounced.
Thanks for the link. I already have the book, so draw someone else's name! :-)

    Your Type is ISFJ
Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging. I enjoyed taking that test. I also read the profile of the ISFJ, I am considered a protector, which is right on..I take care of everyone without the credit or acknowledgement. I have always known I was a Introverted person. But I can pretend with the best of them.

    Rachel,
    Fellow ENFP here! 78-12-62-11
I really enjoy finding out where my bent is and figuring out where God wants me and how to round out myself. A great parent resource for parents to see where their kids are and what motivates their different styles is Taming the Family Zoo buy Jim & Suzette Brawner. 21. Haha Loved this!. Your devotion was great that is exactly where I am at with my 5 year old she is my oldest and much like your daughter and myself. She doesn't trust what I tell her until it is proven and I frequently see things about myself in her and even have ahh haa to how I must have made my own mother feel growing up. I loved taking that test. Results were INFJ and its so crazy because counselor /writer was the career strength as a child this woman at a church conference prophesied that many people would come to me for advice..And I have never forgotten that but wonder how that would play out being introverted lol.I like the part about famous people who have same personality..Mother theresa, Martin luther King Jr. William shakespeare, ludwig beethoven ...It also goes on to say that we have a wide range of talents which I do haha..from music, writing, art, ...This was encouraging. I was blessed to be part of the bible study, however I will still love to win to give the book to my mother and sister to share I purchased the book threw amazon for kindle which you can imagine is difficult to share..

  24. I am an ESFP (Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving). I wasn't surprised at all... I'm always in the mix of things, socializing, mixing with people, I really don't like being alone to much, I prefer to be surrounded by people close to me. Although, I have found myself crawling in to a shell recently. I find it difficult at times being extraverted since my husband is an introvert, but it's been a very learning experience and journey. This was definitely very enlightening... I have always found it easy to be submissive! And find it at times, a bad thing. Thank you!

  25. I am INFJ (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging). I nearly died laughing when I read the description. "Not easily lead." What an understatement! My husband describes dealing with me and our son as "herding cats."

  26. Hi Rachel! I found your blog through Proverbs devotionals. It was very interesting to take this test. I have another test (finding your strengths) waiting, so seems like this is a season in my life to look at my strengths and weaknesses. I think I need to step out a bit!
My results: INTJ, Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging. I was a bit surprised by the results, but after I read some of the descriptions, I found common ground. I think I am hiding my skills....but being a mom of three little kids tends to do that to women for a while, right?
Hope to win the book :D

  27. Thanks so much for posting the link for this test. I found it very interesting and surprising. I am a ESFP. The first word that expressed how I was surprised me. Extroverted? I had to laugh. I have never thought of myself as an extrovert. I love being around people but after a while I need some quiet time and gearing myself down from all of the excitement. Thanks for the insight today. Lord Bless You!!

I am ESFJ (extravert sesnsing feeling judging).I' am so governed by my emotions than I'd like to be. I'm totally dependent on the Lord to keep them in check. I also have to watch about being to quick to judge other and their motives. I'm so glad that the Lord still at work in me; I'd given up a long time ago.
    Have a great weekend.
    Grace :)

  29. Erica, this may sound like unconvential advice but go watch a bunch of episodes of The Dog Whisperer.

Daryl, even extroverts need some down time. I'm pretty highly extroverted but I love having alone time.

Girls, I'll announce the winner on Monday.

  30. ISFJ... a little surprising. I think I've changed greatly as I've aged, become a mother, and grown in Christ. I think what I thought were extroverted tendencies are actually covering for insecurities. I hate tests like this! I always second guess myself... more insecurity. Knowing God is the authority is not an issue, but obedience is another matter. That sometimes difficult, even though I tend to be a "rule follower." Great devo, Rachel. I followed from Proverbs 31 and would love the book!

INTJ....although some of the questions were hard to decide on. The only part that doesn't fit is the confident part, I think I need more work in that area. Thanks for a fun insight.

Funny how trials and tragedy can shape and even sometimes alter our personalities over time. I'm definitely not the same girl I used to be....

I am a ESFJ (Extroverted Sensing,Feeling, Judging). I TOTALLY agree with being outgoing and VERY sensing and feeling towards others. When someone goes through something, I really do sympathize with them and think and pray for them and worry for them too! Not sure about the judging. I would hope that that is NOT what I do to others. But I DO like to be around friends and know what is going on in their lives. My hubby is more introverted! My, how opposites attract!! hee hee! Thanks for this test! Fun to do and I would LOVE your book! GOD Bless you and your ministry! Julie Spearing

  38. I got a INFJ on this test. I think the test is pretty accurate in terms of describing me as a person, in ways that I would deal with things.

Yet, I don't know if it can directly speak to submission to authority or protocol. As an introvert, I don't think it's hard to submit to authority because of my lacking to speak up. However, when talking about norms, I personally don't like to conform to those.

  39. ISFJ which totally goes along with my people pleasing addiction. Even the career assessment was right on. But that is the season of life that I am in. Definitely shows me areas I need to work on. Thanks for the link. Please enter me in the drawing for your book. Thanks for today's insight. I especially like how you tell your daughter "You belong to me" when she shows tendencies of your. I am going to use that with mine.

  40. (ISFJ):Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging...OK, I'll go with it except for the judging one! Or maybe I need to examine that part of myself? Hmmm....something to think about!

  41. ISJF here. I took this assessment at the beginning of the semester in a business course. I took it 3 times because I was sure it was wrong - until I read the definition of Introvert. Then I realized - it was true. I draw my energy from within - not from other people. While I am very comfortable speaking to a group of sales people, once the meeting is over, I prefer to retreat to the fringes of the room. I relish alone time.
