A girl's gotta soak

Hey all you long-soak-in-a-hot-bath fans, I forgot to mention in my last post a very crucial piece of my bath experience: my vibrating bath pillow.

OK, that sounds like some kind of unmentionable bedroom toy but you can see from the picture above that it is not. Last year before Christmas my hubby and son wanted to look in Radio Shack so I went along not expecting to see much that interested me. But then ... on clearance no less ... was this waterproof bath head rest pillow thing that, using batteries, massages your neck on a either low or high setting. For the bargain price of $9.99 it had to come home with me - and has been a part of my tub time ever since.

It works great ... much better than that loud motorized mat thing I once bought that was suppose to turn a regular tub into a jacuzzi-like experience. All it turned was moldy and disappointing. But not my bath pillow, it makes me very happy.

Speaking
of a girl who can appreciate a good long soak in the tub, check this out from the book of Esther in the Bible: "Before a girl's turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty
treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics" (Esther 2:12, NIV). Wow, a entire year's worth of spa days!

If you read the book
of Esther - which doesn't take long and I highly recommend it for your next spa day - you'll discover that while Esther's physical beauty first caught people's attention, it was her wisdom and character that won her a spot as Queen of Persia, and as an example for the ages of true beauty in God's sight. Happy Soaking!

  1. Happy New Year Rachel,
thank you for sharing about the pillow. I have been looking for something like that and so I will be making a trip to our Radio Shack to see if they have one.

  2. Happy New Year sweet friend,

Thanks for reminding us that a good soak can help ease the stresses and strains of life.

Here are a few of my favorite spa essentails:

My new iPod. I already have Santorini Solitude on it and I'm listening to it now.

    MANICURE/PEDICURE IN A JAR.
These are a combination of salts or sugars and essential oils. Just a minute or two of rubbing your hands and feet will exfolitate the dead dry skin leaving you with hands and feet as soft as a baby's bum.

    OJON HAIR CARE PRODUCTS.
These are made from Ojon oil and have succesfully tamed my unruly Greek hair like nothing I've ever used before. These can be purchased at some very upscale salons and spas; but QVC also carries them at reasonable prices.

    AQUAPHOR ointment.
This can be found at any drugstore or even your local grocery store. It's good for dry or chapped skin, chapped lips, even minor cuts and scraps. I love to use it after my at home pedicures. I slather on the aquphor and then slip on my cotton socks before slipping under the covers.

I'll scower my cabinets for any other products I love to use and share them with you.

    Soaking in Matthews,
    Zoe

  3. Hey Rachel..
Love the tub pillow. I haven't seen one like that, only the inflatable that comes from wal mart. Funny you mentioned the jacuzzi mat thingy..I remember growing up my mom had one. We thought it was so cool to get in there with that thing running so loudly. Fortunately, I can enjoy my own tub w/ jacuzzi jets now. Loved the scripture. I read it to my husband, hoping the $65 facial at our local salon won't sound too bad..haha.. Alyce

  7. Ok.. I thought I'd try to do a blog..I am not a writer. Don't know what I'll do w/ this thing, don't know if I will stay committed to it. But wondered if it would help in communication any.. I don't know. My friend suggested I made a blog about cooking/recipes..since that really is a passion of mine. I am not a creative person, really; therefore coming up w/ a name for a blog seems a difficult task. I ask you, Rachel and any others reading, for any ideas. I know this is a huge request, as no one knows me really, but maybe some suggestions could be given. Thanks and have a wonderful day..

  10. Tammy - there is a massaging bath pillow that is kind of similar at Comforthouse.com if your Radio Shack doesn't have it.

Zoe - you and I are two peas in a pod with our Santorini Splendor on our ipods!

Alyce - so you're thinking of joining the blogging world, huh? Promise you'll still visit me here after you do! Sounds like you're thinking of a food blog -they are popular.

Tell us what kind of cooking excites you... are you primarily a baker? or all into fresh ingredients? or comfort foods? maybe an Italian cook? or a southern cook? has a certain ingredient captured your heart? Give this some thought and a good name based on that might arise.

Thanks for posting everyone. I love to hear from you!

  11. Rachel,
I enjoyed reading all the spa entries from your blog. A soak in the tub is one of my top ten favorite things in life. I'm going to look for one of those pillows! Add some candles and a good book and I'm set!
