When I think of Advent, I think of a big wooden door -- like maybe one found on a cathedral, or a monastery, or maybe just an old ancient inn. I imagine Jesus on the other side of it ... knocking. My heart beats faster. I imagine a key turning the lock ... I hear the lock release ... then I see the knob beginning to turn, and I know that it is the hand of my Lord turning it from the other side. I realize I'm about to come face to face with Him.Can you feel the excitement ... sense the anticipation? That's what Advent is all about. Here are today's advent readings:
Matthew 2:1-2 (NLT)
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”
Isaiah 53:6 (NLT)
"All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all."
Can you feel the excitement?
ReplyDeleteStarted reading "The Shack" (finals this week and will be off my campus for a full month so I ry to get in as much reading as I can). As this character is going to the shack to meet God and reached for the door handle I thought of these post.
It's all about CHRIST!!

ReplyDeleteYour advent verses give me goose bumps. The contrast between the events of His birth and Isaiah 53: foretelling of His sacrificial death give me lots to think about. I am greatful that you have taken this ministry on this advent season, to remind us all what this is all about.

After reading your Advent posts, I have just decided to make it a point to read the story of Christ' birth with my children over the next 9 days. I have a youn son (8) who enjoys reading the bible with me. My hope is that by turning off the T.V. each night, and reading with him, my older 2 sons, (16 & 18) will be touched by the Holy Spirit and join us. Please pray for us. Pray that the light of the Holy Spirit in me be bright enough to ignite a love of Christ and His Holy word in them. Thank you all!
