My One Word for 2010

ding, ding, ding Can I have your attention please?

I have an announcement to make:

January - New Year's - is now officially over.

Did you make some resolutions? Did you keep them?

All of them?

If you're like most Americans, you're already feeling frustrated with yourself, defeated. And you're deciding that next year you won't bother making resolutions.

Or maybe you decided that last year and didn't make any this year (but secretly felt like a slacker hearing all your friends talk about their resolutions last month).

Well I have good news. You get a second chance! And it gets even better ... rather than writing out a long list of resolutions covering the many ways you'd like to improve this year, I'm going to suggest you prayerfully choose just one word as your 2010 resolution.

JUST ONE WORD to be your focus or lens for 2010.

JUST ONE WORD that represents what you most hope God will do in you and your life in 2010.

Doing resolutions this way forces clarity and focus. This is my 5th year doing resolutions this way and I recommend you give it a try. I've even got a way to help you remember your word - your singular resolution - through out the entire year. Because let's face it, most resolutions are forgotten by April.

Intrigued? Pop over to myoneword.org to learn more about this resolution revolution. It will guide you in picking your word and getting started. *Be sure and register your email address there to receive the email reminders and application activities throughout the year.

This year my word is SLOW. Perhaps you'll hear more about that later in a post here, or in a video there. For now, go check it out and if you decide to pick a word, come back and leave a comment and share your word with me. Let the revolution begin!

Grateful for my one word.

  1. I've decided to pick the word 'listen' for many reasons.

When I read this post the word that immediately came to me was pray. If I continue to seek God in prayer and continue to pray for others everything else will fall into place like drawing closer to God.

  4. For some reason I never came up with a word for this year but I do know that God is working on sending me on an international mission trip...excited and nervous all at the same time. Trust might be my word because without my trust in God's almighty power, I would stay home!

Stay tuned becuase I'm about to do some posts with my friend who just went to Haiti. She had to Trust too!

  6. The word that jumps to my mind is OBEDIENCE... not sure I like that too much but it is a good thing... I long to be obedient to (which means I have to first be aware of) God's calling on my life. Our family is at a crossroads of sorts and my husband and I want more than anything to be OBEDIENT!

  7. I don't have a word (very cool site though), I have a phrase. It came out a devotional I did at the beginning of the year - might even have been one of yours, Rachel?

It's this: Prepare to be interrupted.

And so far I've had lots of opportunity to practice it :)

  8. My word is: "Word". :) Last year, I read God's Word through in a year (a la Wendy Pope). In 2010, we are reading it through with our cherubs. "The Kids Chrono One-Year Bible (7 minutes a day)". Very excited they will go through God's Word in a year. Our prayer is that they hunger and thirst for it, and that the love and obey His Word....and the author of His Word!

So far, so good. Once or twice, we've had to read two in one day. But we are moving along!

  9. My one word for 2010 is surrender. I need to remember to surrender EVERYTHING to God, instead of trying to handle everything on my own :-)

  10. Great idea Rachel. I have decided to pick healing. The word came to me when I prayed yesterday morning and it has been my focus ever since. The funny part is that I didn't read your blog until tonight so I'm taking it as a clear message from God. :-) It will be interesting to see how God works healing into my life and how I pass it along to others. I love to make others feel important and good about themselves.

    God bless you!

  11. I tried posting a comment from my phone the other day on the way home from Omaha, but it wouldn't let me for some reason. Anyway, loved this Rachel, thanks for sharing it. My word is "commit". ;) I'm heading over there now. Can't wait to see how God uses your one word in your life throughout these next 11 months.

  12. Discipline! And my memory verse is Hebrews 12:11. This is definitely as season in which I wish I could skip the training and go right for the fruit.

  13. So glad to hear so many of you taking up the challenge with prayerful excitment!

And its neat to read everyone's words.

Can't wait to hear at the end of the year - or sooner maybe - what your word came to mean in your life.

  14. I have been thinking on this for weeks, after first hearing the concept from myoneword.org, but I couldn't choose a word until just a few days ago...

My one word is RESIST. Resist the devil and he will flee... Resist the lies of the enemy and the core beliefs that have plagued much of my life... Resist, resist resist. Too much to put in this comment.

Resist... and then be RELENTLESS in my pursuit of truth!! That's the prayer of my heart today...
