Can you believe ...

that I am thirty-something ... from the South ... and I just made homemade lemonade this weekend for the first time ever?

Oh my what I have been missing all this time ~ this stuff is delicious!!

I'm so glad you are here to share my joy, even if you can't share a glass with me. You see, half my P31 friends are all on this crazy no-sugar diet. I won't name names ... Zoe and Lysa are the only ones to publicly announce it. But if you are coming to She Speaks, it will be obvious which ones did the diet. They'll all be looking Tori-Spelling skinny.

And I'll be the more Kelly Clarkson looking one, with the glass of lemonade in her hand. At least that was my plan: Eat whatever I want between now and then, and tell the conference hotel to stock up on lemons. Only Lysa had to go and ruin my plan. Last night she had to challenge all of us to give up something - fast something - between now and She Speaks. So .... errrr.

No offense to Tori or Kelly by the way - I'd gladly share my lemonade with either of them. I bet they wouldn't make their friends feel guilty about enjoying the first batch of fresh lemonade they've ever made. No offense to Lysa either ... maybe I'll send her some lemonade, just to let her know no hard feelings. :)

Hey I'm not quite sure what to do with the the 18 lemon halves that have the daylights squeezed out them. Surely some frugal mom would know what I could use those for, but I haven't a clue. Aren't lemons good for cleaning something?

Off to pour a second glass while I contemplate fasting ~R

  1. Yum! Homemade lemonade :) Enjoy it, girl.

I've been keeping up with Lysa's no sugar diet and I'm actually looking into it myself. It's got me all curious!

Blessings to you as you figure out what to fast until She Speaks. Very cool.

    Have a lovely day,
    Kate :)

  2. Ok, it is settled then, you set the tables and I will do the cooking and cutting. But you didn't cut yourself with the lemons, ouch.

Lemons are great for grinding up in your garbage disposal.
You can also take them with some water, cloves, cinnamon sticks and boil for a sneaky way to make people think you are cooking. :-0

I will get back with you on the vinegar, what was the kind you had. Also what were you looking for?

I am speaking at a retreat this weekend on my "If You Can't Stand To Cook" topic. I show them different types of foods used from the bible, as well as flavored oils and vinegars. So that stuff will be very handy. The talk also include disability cooking. (get it= can't stand to cook).

I check back soon. Switch back to southern ice tea girl.

  5. I went back to your post yesterday to reread LaTonya (God's Ladie) in your comments. She been gone a long time and it was so good to see her again.

I left you an answer to your question on that post.

  6. Yes, homemade lemonade is the best! We like ours very tart. We usually finish the whole jug on the first day.

  8. Don't forget to use the zest from the lemons - makes great dressings, salad flavoring and of course, icing for cakes for those NOT banned from consuming sugar!

  9. Hey friend,
You crack me up! Honey, I will never be Tori Spelling thin. I could have my mouth wired shut for 6 months and still have lots of curves. I assure you there is no skinny Greek girl here. LOL

  10. Homemade lemonade! Yumm-o! The house I grew up in had a HUGE lemon tree that kind of took over the back yard so we had fresh lemons all the time! When my parents re-landscaped the back yard and removed the tree my dad juiced every lemon he could and froze the juice in one cup portions. Their chest freezer was full of 'fresh' lemon juice and we were able to enjoy lemonade from that tree for several years after it was gone! Ahhh the memories!

As for uses for the lemon halves... I too use them to freshen up my garbage disposal. I know coffee pots can be cleaned with a little ice, salt and lemon juice, but not sure if the used halves would do the trick.

  11. Goodness that is sad! And just so you know lemons are good for cleaning wooden cutting boards. Just that and salt and it's a great safe abrasive cleaner.
You could also put them into a compost to make some great fertilizer for your garden or flowers (if you have any!)

lol...thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. And Darla says hi back! We so enjoyed you in December - I pray you are being blessed and blessing as you continue your travels!
